There is some welcome good news for residents living in Warwick district with the announcement that Green Bin Collections will recommence from Monday 20 April.
In the wake of the Coronavirus emergency, Warwick District Council has been following the latest guidance from government to protect the health and safety of the public and colleagues on the front line who continue to operate the district’s waste and recycling services. This has required some temporary changes to collections in order to maintain the service and prioritise the collection of grey bin household waste.
Since the suspension of Green Bin collections on 6 April the Council’s refuse and recycling team has been working with colleagues from Warwickshire County Council and partners Suez and Veolia to redeploy resources, enabling the service to be restarted in line with the necessary social distancing requirements.
Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Moira-Ann Grainger commented;
“These are challenging times for those operating our waste collections and we are doing everything we can to protect the health and safety of both the public and our crews. We do however realise the value and importance of the Green Bin Service to residents, particularly at this time of year. I’m therefore pleased to announce that through collaborative working with Warwickshire County Council we have sourced additional vehicles and drivers which will allow us to restart the service from next week.”
The Council would like to advise local residents that the green bin service will remain under review, and along with other collections may be subject to delay.
Councillor Grainger added;
“Whilst we continue to provide all of our refuse, recycling and green waste services, collections will take longer than usual and may fall a couple of days behind. We do however ask the public to continue to put their bins out on the correct day and assist us by minimising food waste and composting where possible.”
The Council recommends that all residents wear disposable gloves and/or wash their hands after moving their refuse and recycling containers to or from their property.
